In January, the TypeScript team shared their roadmap for TypeScript's development in the first half of 2019. Amongst many other things, they announced that they intend to focus on bringing ESLint's TypeScript support to parity with the existing TSLint project.
In the Summer of 2020 I went looking for a better way to make iced coffee. Cold brew coffee is popular and easy to make, but the process of steeping the coffee grounds in water can take up to 24 hours, and what's worse, as a lot of coffee's flavours are better released when the caffeine, acids, and oils of the coffee beans are exposed to boiling water, the taste becomes too rounded and leaves out a lot of the interesting notes that I enjoy. Fortunately I found this method of brewing a pour over coffee with a combination of water and ice cubes, which serves to fully extract the delicious and interesting notes of the coffee bean while also cooling the drink down so that it's immediately ready to serve on a hot day.
Who am I?
With macOS Ventura (version 13) Apple stopped supporting a large number of older Macs including my MacBook Pro from 2016. I think you can reasonably argue that Apple should support its pro line of computers for more than five years, but that’s a topic for another time. I’m simply not interested in replacing this machine yet, so to lengthen its lifespan, software-wise, I decided to investigate how to get Ventura running on unsupported Macs.
Sandalmagernes gade is a 1931 novel by the Danish author Nis Petersen, set in ancient Rome during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. There’s no real story to speak of, but the novel is full of humour and lovely lyrical expressions. Even so, it takes a lot of willpower to get through 500 pages of nothing.
Single-purpose websites are extremely simple websites that do one single thing. That one thing is often to provide a single piece of information such as answering the question "is today a Friday?" with a "Yes" or "No". I've made a few of these in my day, most of them have come and gone, but some of them are still online. I wanted to put a list in writing, if nothing else just to help my future self keep track.
The Phoenix Project is a novel telling the story of a protagonist having to save a cursed IT project from failure. The book is, I’m told, a retelling of Eliyahu M. Goldratt’s book The Goal but moved to the IT world.
I have a habit of writing down parts of books that in some way stand out to me or that I particularly like. I started doing it during my trip through New Zealand in 2015. One of the first books I did this with was The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
How does man find purpose in the day of science, a godless age? The book, published in the early ’50s, is written for a new age, a time after World War 2, a time with the bomb.
In 2017 I became one of the first hires at the legal tech startup Onlaw. March 31 of this year was my last day working there. In between I learned a lot about how to be a better programmer and how to be a better entrepreneur. I wanted to put a summary of these learnings in writing while they were still fresh in my mind. Like most startup advice these are not things that will be universally applicable for everyone, in fact I expect very little to none of the business learnings will apply to a side gig you bootstrap yourself and grow in your spare time. I found them to be true for my situation at that point in time.
